Geoff Price 1939-2016
Geoff Price has remained one of the most collectable artists in the UK, with his paintings now almost impossible to come by. A Chester based artist, Geoff was technically brilliant, stylistically and endlessly vibrant, he created some of the most beautiful elements of Horse Racing.
It was in the 1960s and 70s that Geoff enjoyed a career as a jockey, where he used to exercise horses at the stables of the late Donald ‘Ginger’ McCain.
Geoff went onto study as a mature student and graduated in Fine Art from Liverpool Polytechnic in 1977. He once said of his artwork, “As a result of my association with horse racing I try to capture its pageantry - jockey’s colours, crowds, but more importantly it’s the movement, the physical power of jockey and horse; that I want to convey through my work.”
Geoff exhibited in galleries across the UK; his work is still featured in the collection at University of Liverpool, as well as private collections in the UK, Ireland, USA and Colombia.
Racehorse trainer Ed Dunlop, TV racing presenter and journalist Brough Scott and TV horse racing pundit John McCririck were among the many admirers and collectors of his work.
